Video Game Design Schools?

I have to start looking at schools before. I am very interested in a career in video game design and simulation. I want to finish working time XD Blizzard or Valve. Anyway, does anyone know a good college or university that has what I look for in the U.S.. Preferably New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont, if possible. I heard that ITT Tech and Devry are good for Video Game Design, but people tell me that these schools are crap .. Is this true? And if anyone has any advice for me on game design and etc. .. please = D.

ITT Tech and DeVry * no * good schools, and did not prepare or qualify to work in the gaming industry. Avoid them. For game design, there's really a school or important that it is better than any other. A lot of schools to try to say that they have game design majors, and that is flatly false. Art are either 100% and no design that is, or did not prepare better than a "normal" would be the university. The only exceptions to this are the master's program at Carnegie Mellon University, and the program's degree from USC. True game design is done almost entirely with writing and math, and does not involve art or programming. If you is interested in design, go to any good college 4 years and older than you want. Simply choose a major that you enjoy and that will allow graduate as soon as possible. Along with its important to take a math through calculus, and at least two courses in Statistics, two courses in writing, one Computer course and a course of art. Math and writing are the main tools of a designer, and the CS and art courses will help you work with your programmer and artist colleagues later. Fill the remainder of their course requirement with a liberal arts education across – the history, literature, mythology, sociology, psychology, etc, are all useful in game design. Since you want to work for Blizzard or valve in particular, the city where the school will be at least as important as going to school. Most game companies do not pay for relocation of an entry level job, and some did not even interview if you do not live in the area. In general, I recommend that aspiring game designers to choose a university near a center of heavy industry, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Seattle, etc, to increase their chances of being hired at the university. Valve is out of Seattle, and Blizzard is in Irvine, south of Los Angeles, so for that I recommend Seattle or Los Angeles / Orange County specifically. Get in the door of your business dream. If you stay to the east for college, you will have to move yourself Seattle or Los Angeles after college, when you have student loans and children can have a couple or even to worry about. Or will to find work playing on the east coast, and the work of 2-5 years, until he has enough experience that a company like Blizzard or Valve would be willing to move to another side the country. OTOH, if you go to college near Blizzard or valve, which will drastically increase your chances of getting an internship with them (I know for a fact that Blizzard had designed the USC interns this summer) and will be hired full time much easier and more likely. One last thing to keep in mind: Most people are not hired as game designers right out of college, no matter what major (ie including even those with an MBA from CMU). The vast majority of people who want to be game designers "rupture" with the game industry through other means, usually QA or Customer Service. Quality control, in particular, gives a firsthand view of the development process, and gives direct access to people who could be recommended for design work. But most companies require their new testers for quality control and live within traveling daily to the headquarters of the company, so again, where you live will make a big difference. Good luck!
